Duties
The duties of the Consumer Council include:
1. To assist the Macao SAR Government in formulating, promoting and implementing policies and measures for the protection of consumer rights and interests, and voicing opinions, submitting reports, conducting studies and offering advice on matters related to the implementation of such policies and measures;
2. To receive and handle complaints from consumers, refer and follow up on complaints falling within the purview of other departments of the Administration, and assist parties concerned in resolving consumer disputes through institutional mediation and arbitration;
3. To implement supervision work that is included in the powers of the Consumer Council as stipulated by law;
4. To collect information on the protection of consumer rights and interests, especially information on the characteristics and prices of products and services;
5. To carry out researches and studies on the prices of retail products and services offered to consumers;
6. To carry out comparative tests on various kinds of retail products;
7. To promote exchange and cooperation in the area of protection of consumer rights and interests with public service departments, public and private entities within the Macao SAR or abroad;
8. To encourage and promote honest business practices and self-discipline in industries;
9. To carry out promotional and educational work regarding the protection of consumer rights and interests;
10. To disseminate information concerning consumer rights and interests;
11. To carry out other duties assigned by law.
